Hippocrates Cafe

6:30pm to 7:30pm CT

Pre-show reception for registered guests begins at 5:30PM at Rochester Civic Theatre.

This session will explore “Frankenstein” through spoken words and music, drawing from the novel and source materials, as well as poetry and prose inspired by Mary Shelley’s work.

Hippocrates Cafe combines performing arts and medicine. It is a live show that uses professional actors and musicians to explore healthcare topics through story and song.

Performances typically run 45 to 60 minutes in length and are designed to educate, entertain, and heal. Each show uses a combination of poetry, short stories, essays, letters, historical documents, and music. Pieces are carefully picked to illuminate the chosen topic in a way that is thoughtful, respectful, and creative.

Hippocrates Cafe creator and host Jon Hallberg, MD, introduces show topics and provides narration throughout, giving context for all pieces. Dr. Hallberg is an associate professor in family medicine at the University of Minnesota. He is an award-winning medical educator and is medical director at the University of Minnesota Physicians Mill City Clinic.

Since 2003, Hallberg has been the regular medical commentator on the regional “All Things Considered” on Minnesota Public Radio.
